My friend and I are planning a trip to New Orleans during the summer. Our main attraction, and primary reason for going to New Orleans in particular, is Jazz music. We are both seventeen years old currently. Is there any well known shows which would be available to individuals of all ages? Could you please recommend some shows or events in particular? Please list the prices for any events listed. I’d prefer answers from people in the area who are familiar with the "jazz" scene.
The Palm Court restaurant is in the French Quarter and you can get in at age 17. There is no cover because it is a restaurant. the Palm Court is very nice, has moderate prices, and traditional live jazz starting at 8:00pm: 1204 Decatur Street, tel 504-525-0200 (reservations are important and they are not open every day). The Palm Court is closed from about July 25th to about September 25th each year.
Preservation Hall does not serve drinks so you should be able to get in. The cover charge is $10 per person. http://www.preservationhall.com/home.php
There is always music, but the bands change: Go to www.bestofneworleans.com and click on Music then Listings or to www.offbeat.com and click on Listings, then Music. You have to call the individaul clubs to ask about age requirements.
Hope you have a great trip!
