Hornets Sting Back in Nba Basketball

The star of the evening for the Hornets was David West who scored a total of 40 points for his team of which 15 points he scored in the final quarter alone.  Los Angeles lost to New Orleans 105-116.  The defensive game played by the Hornets towards the end proved to be the turning point of the game in their favor.  NBA basketball results can be quite unpredictable! The Lakers maintained a lead through most of the game with 92-89 in the fourth quarter but luck seemed to run out for Los Angeled when they were only able to score 5 of 21, as well as a shocking 3 of…

What was the original way New Orleans was pronounced?

I understand the locals normally say N’orlins – Stress on the Nor. I was just curious if there was an original French way in which Orleans may have been pronounced. Currently I say New Orlins – stress on the Or, but when I was young I would say New Orleens – stress on the leens. Only Hollywood and tourists call the city N”Awlins. The original name of the city was in French: Nouvelle Orleans. It is pronounced new vell ore lay on. There are two "normal” pronunciations today: New Or le ans (Orleans is 3 syllables) New Or leans (Orleans is 2 syllables) The issue is somewhat confused by the…

What should I do while staying in New Orleans?

My family is planning a trip to New Orleans for the week-end. We have three small daughters; ages 7, 5, & 2. What are some fun, "cheap" things we could take them to do? We are planning on the zoo and the aquarium. What else is there? Lots to do but here are some ideas on a budget. Take them to the children’s museum, mardi gras world, the wax museum, a carriage ride, walk along jackson square and the river walk, a zephers baseball game, the IMAX theater, steamboat natchez, cafe du monde for beinets, take a streetcar ride. Enjoy!

    12 Yats of Christmas

Pre-Katrina, pre-2000s New Orleans culture comes to life in this parody of the classic “Twelve Days of Christmas.” Sadly, practically everything in this video is gone or changed drastically. Most of the businesses, if I’m not mistaken, had disappeared or were sold before my family even moved out of Louisiana in 2000. Sorry for the mediocre audio/video quality, but the tape is well past its prime as its last recorded program—this sketch—was recorded no later than December 1995 or ’96. The only thing missing from this is the few opening words—”On the first day of Christmas, my mawmaw gave to me a crawfish they caught…”—but I think the video makes…
