Flashing for Beads on Bourbon Street

New Orleans and Bourbon Street in particular is known for having an anything goes attitude. This video illustrates of of the “customs” that are allowed during Mardi Gras season, flashing for beads on Bourbon Street. Is Flashing for Beads In New Orleans Allowed All Over The City?     While it is thought that “flashing for beads” is allowed all over New Orleans all of the time this is incorrect. It is not a custom or a tradition. Flashing for beads is however allowed during Mardi Gras in the French Quarter and mainly on Bourbon Street. Anywhere else in the city, you run the risk of going to jail. This…

what is something fun to do in the french quarter?

i am trying to plan a date in the french quarter that does not revolve around bourbon street. nor taking one of those horse carriages. is there something else fun to do besides drink? When I was a graduate student in New Orleans some of my favorite French Quarter activities were to start with a lunch at Napoleon House. http://www.napoleonhouse.com/ Then move onto the Louisiana State Museum. http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/ It is a wonderful museum with a delightful Mardi Gras exhibit featuring some historic gowns and "royalty" items. Next up I would head over to the Museum of the American Cocktail. It is quick and fun. http://www.museumoftheamericancocktail.org/ I would then slow down…

    Yo Mama!

Just off of Bourbon Street, a couple of doors down at 727 St. Peter is the coolest little pit stop with the best jukebox in the Quarter.  Yo Mama’s Bar and Grill is home to ice cold Abita and other beers and cocktails that hit the spot on a Vieux Carre’ cruise. Jumbo burgers piled with your choice of extras like bacon, mushrooms, cheddar and peanut butter (I kid you not) are mouthwateringly juicy.  A burger order includes an oversized loaded baked potato. You lightweights better share with a friend.  You will never finish this mountain of food alone. This time of year there is also spicy hot boiled crawfish. Good stuff!…

I’m going on a trip to New Orleans at the end of March. What can I do there? (attractions, restaurants, hotels

Attractions: The Aquarium/Zoo Cruise, The Riverwalk Mall, the French Quarter, Awesome Antiques Shopping, The Cathedral, Jax Brewery, Musee Conte Wax Museum, The D-Day Museum, and my personal favorite (as a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana – only an hour away) tour the many above ground cemeteries often referred to as Cities of the Dead. Restaurants: Breakfast – Mother’s, there will be a line, a long line, but it moves pretty quickly and the food is SO worth it. For a more formal breakfast, there’s nothing to compare with Brennan’s – they do a fabulous brunch. Snack: You’re trip there won’t be complete without a visit to Cafe Du Monde for…

Is it safe to travel to new orleans for mardi gras next year?

I am planning a trip next year for Mardi Gras, but I have heard that New Orleans is still a very dangerous place for tourists. Would anyone who lives there or has been there recently confirm this? We are planning to go as a group and will probably rent a pair of SUV’s for the trip. I am concerned that the trucks may make us targets for being robbed. Oh My God. Do you think that no one else in New Orleans drives an SUV. I will admit that New Orleans has it’s problems, but if you plan on coming to the city for Mardi Gras, just be a smart…

    Bourbon Street (Rue Bourbon)

This video is a tribute to the late great Mike Reynolds, the piano accordion showman extraordinaire for Planete Folle Band from 1993 to 2008. May your music live on in our memories, Mike! Bourbon Street is a tribute to the famous party street in New Orleans. It has three verses in English and three verses in French that say the same things about the music, dance, romance, and the unique cuisine of New Orleans and the Louisiana Bayou. It was written in 1993, a year after Vic Sadot travelled to New Orleans and the Acadiana region along the Gulf Coast. The song was released in 1997 by Vic Sadot’s Planete…
