@libertariandoc …
@libertariandoc For starters, that was about 70 years ago. Other than electing stupid Mayors who visit Jamaica a month after a major hurricane, an entire Senator’s family including the Senator will soon all be in jail, we drive modern cars & know how to kick back a good time. I am a fourth generation New Orleanian & my son makes the fifth.
@ …
@MrBurlingtonNorthern You are probably correct but a red light and a dime are a tad different. We do have the WALK and DON’T WALK signs that let us know it SHOULD be safe to cross. Depends on who is driving!
@glapril Acually I …
@glapril Acually I have the HO scale street car names Desire
Still though, You can’t stop a street car on a dime i’m sure.
@MrAquarium Those …
@MrAquarium Those aren’t trains at all. Those are “street cars” and they run off of electricity down the middle of Canal Street and St. Charles Avenue. They must obey the traffic signals as well. Ever heard of “A Streetcar Named Desire” ? So no, we’re not nuts.
Actually it isn’t …
Actually it isn’t the murder capital of the world anymore. Also, 99% of those deaths are gang and drug related.
No, its ashamed, it …
No, its ashamed, it isn’t anything like that anymore. We are now the MURDER CAPITAL of the U S A . It is like all large metroploitan cities these days……and like our honorable Mayor Ray Nagin, who has just been awarded, a great Mayor by the Progressives in the newsmedia…….In his own words…..”NEW ORLEANS IS THE CHOCOLATE CITY”… That is the answer to your question, madame/sir. So sorry, it is crime ridden all the way to the top.
canal street is …
canal street is such a disgrace these days, and i won’t even mention charity hospital. still, if i ever feel a little sad over all the t-shirt shops, this kind of film is what goes through my head. very cool and important for us to remember.
Wow, what happened …
Wow, what happened to that place, it is not like that anymore.
Love these …
Love these TravelTalk videos!
I hope that whoever posted this will also add

It’s my favorite. Thanks!!
Does anybody know …
Does anybody know what is the music playing in the presentation of the film (0:08)? Thanks!
New Orleans is the …
New Orleans is the shit!!!
MrAquarium’s …
MrAquarium’s comment is rather charming too…even though “street cars” are “trains,” no New Orleanian would call a street car a train…sheesh, lol!
those people nuts? …
those people nuts? just walk across in front of a train like it;s a nothing at all,,,, sheesh, lol
Start with the book …
Start with the book “Frenchmen, Desire, and Goodchildren” by John Churchill Chase. One of my all-time favorites.
Thank you, Vl, for …
Thank you, Vl, for that info. This is definitely something I’d like to do some research on.
The only part of …
The only part of this that needs clarification is the myth about Canal Street. There never was an actual canal that ran down Canal Street, only a company whose sole responsibility was to build that canal. The company operated at a profit for over a century, but the canal was never constructed.
